So I just called ER and got this one doctor I'll write about later, but she said it is "not possible" to have a hemocrit of 2.2.
But that's what I was told. I asked a nurse what my CBC was and she said my blood count was at about a 7.something. She said it was 7.2 something and I said that was very low, because I'd had blood transfusions when I hit that low, at the other hospital.
So she said, don't quote me on it, I want to double-check. So she checked and came back and said my red blood cell count was actually a 9.something and then she listed the hemoglobin, and then she said my hemocrit was 2.2something. I said, "Oh, so it's up" and she repeated, slowly, that my hemocrit was 2.2 something. I didn't think it mattered so I just took note, that my general count was at 9.something and thought this was good.
So now I've called and one of the resident doctors who was attending called back and said this wasn't possible, that my hemocrit was not 2.2 but was 25. I said, is this percentage? or is this a count and she said they went by "indices". I told her what I was told and she said it wasn't "possible", but at least one nurse gave me this information, and repeated it more than once because she thought it was very low.
So I asked the ER doctor, is this what you "remember"? or are you looking at my record and chart? and she said this is what she remembered. I asked her if she could obtain my chart and get back to me about the exact number and told her I'm still having very severe pain and that I still disagreed with her that my whole condition, right now, is "normal".
This kind of pain and discharge, is, I believe, "abnormal". I have really bad pain in my lower back, INSIDE, like when I had a kidney infection, and it's on the lower left side, and I have very bad cramps and pain and a lot of movement in my stomach and I'm having an almost constant flow of blood. It's like I'm having a heavy period and it's not let up at all.
She said she'd call me later this morning, so I'll find out what she says later.
I don't know what I think about this doctor, because she kept trying to argue with me, at the hospital, about every small thing, and was defensive of the idea that my baby's heartbeat stopped because of a malfunctioning MRI machine, and said it's "not possible". Another, "it's not possible". She claimed it's impossible for an MRI machine to stop a fetus's heartbeat and I told her it wasn't even a normally-working MRI machine, and that I KNEW when there was something wrong and a change in my pregnancy symptoms. She also wanted to know the name of the place that was taking the fetus for independent autopsy and kept asking me who was doing the pathology and where it was going.
Why does she need to know this information? I thought it was odd. Her name was Spitzer. Dr. Spitzer. She was also trying to tell me Cytotec and Methergine do completely different things, and I told her they were used for similar actions, and she said to me, after she claimed my pain and bleeding was normal when other docs told me it wasn't normal and I didn't think it was normal,
she said, I quote: "I'M the DOCTOR" to which I replied, "YOU are one of FIVE different opinions."
I found out she was under attending OBGYN doctor Macrie, who was the one who told me the day before, that I couldn't see the radiology record after they got results, and he asked me if I knew how to read them and I said I had some basic knowledge. He's the one who said it looked ectopic but could be a cyst, and he's the one who wrote the prescription for Methergine, which could have been dangerous if I'd taken it, because it would have caused a reaction, possibly, very similar to the reaction I had to Cytotec. He said I could go to his office to have HCG levels checked in a couple of days but then said go to ER when he found out I didn't have insurance.
He seemed professional and nice enough, but he didn't want me to see the radiology records, and there were a ton of doctors, attending and residents, who knew I wanted to see them, and it was after this, that I went to the radiology lab and the radiologist was only able to pull up about 6 photos, and she gave me everything that was there, which I have now, on a CD.
I guess Spitzer got the instruction from Macrie, yesterday, that my continued bleeding and pain was "normal".
On the short radiology report I got from yesterday, it says the endometrial lining is thickened. I don't know if that's the uterine lining or what, and I do know that EMF would cause scarring and thickening of the uterine wall, but I don't know how this is the same or different from the endometrial lining. It also says there is something inside of my ovary, and I told all of these doctors, that it is extremely painful when the intravaginal sonogram is done.
All they have to do is press towards that ovary, and I'm shouting out in pain.
Sorry, but I don't think this is "normal" either.'
I'm not complaining about George Washington Hospital as a facility though--many of the doctors and interns there are very good, and I felt, generally, very "safe" there. I just think a couple of the people have got my case "wrong" and I question some of the questions.
NO, I did not tell Spitzer where my baby was going, and who might do the pathology. It was none of her god-damn business and she knew it. But she kept trying to get the information out of me anyway. The intern was in the back, with a slight smile on her face. When Spitzer asked what was being done with the fetus and where it was going, I said, "He's having an independent autopsy" or something about how I was getting an independent pathology for him and I saw the intern smile.

ER Again?
I don't know. I'm not going back to ER immediately by any means, but I'm extremely tired and weak.
It's a little odd, I think, that the discharge doctor wrote I could go back to work in 1-2 days, when she knows my hemocrit is 2.2.
I'm starting to wonder, now that I've done my own research. And I'm still bleeding a lot, so the hemocrit is probably going to get worse, not better, even with iron. Like I said, I've been eating hamburgers and red meat, so I'm not sure that iron is going to solve this problem.
I still have really bad pain too. I took one Percocet and don't want to take another because for some reason, I feel more nauseaus than I ever have before, taking narcotic pain relievers.

People I Noticed
First there was a guy with a speech problem and the last name Garrett, and then there was a guy who spoke Spanish but didn't look hispanic necessarily. A guy couple from Spain came in--two good looking metrosexuals, and then a couple, and then another couple I recognized from somewhere but I don't know where. She had reddish hair and he had blond hair. He looked a little like my uncle and she looked Eastern European in a way. For some reason, I wanted to give her a hug, and we were in the waiting room, and then I later found out, she was also going to ER and they had her do a sonogram before me. I think she lost a baby or something. I saw her looking straight at the ceiling on the stretcher as she was wheeled away and her husband's look of concern.
I was registered by a Diana who I liked a lot. A really beautiful woman, personality and everything. I thought, she gives new meaning to the name. I liked the name as a tribute to Princess Diana, but this was another kind of Diana, who did justice to the name. She had dark hair and I think she may have been Jewish (sort of the look, a little) or possibly Catholic, but that kind of white skin, dark hair, nose and full lips look. She was just bright and full of life and warm. Then we went back and I saw several doctors and nurses again.
One, I noticed, seemed protective of me, and he took over when I was being wheeled out of the sonogram room. He seemed a little nervous too, or felt bad for me. I don't know why, but I swear he knows me somehow. He took some blood or hooked me up to the IV and I later saw him at the desk when I was leaving. It was when I met him, briefly, that I realized I am going to be in love with someone someday. It wasn't that I thought this about him, but that I recognized there was something about him that was special and that there are a lot of men out there with something to offer, and I've just not met my match, so-to-speak. I noticed my attraction to him, which was good, because I didn't feel like I could be attracted to anyone again--just too much for me. He was sort of take charge and sensitive too, and I just liked him. Of course, I noticed later he had a ring and that was fine--it was still good for me to see how it was possible. I also noticed a very tall guy who was a nurse or intern, and a couple other guys who noticed me, and I noticed them, and I got a positive feeling. There were two men who I noticed that seemed to know me but were sort of negative--or I got a negative vibe from them. One was blond and a little shorter and the other was shorter and had very dark hair and smirked at me when I was waiting for sonogram. He came in while I was waiting, and went into a room and then came out and looked at me and I didn't get the best feeling from him. I also noticed a couple of doctors trying to set up their MRI machines and I liked both of them--one was conservative Jewish (I think) with beard and the other was a blond in a ponytail.
Anyway, what was good to notice was that even when I was in a lot of pain, and going through all of this, I was surprised that I could be attracted to anyone or that anyone would seem to notice me. To me, it said something is around the corner, and that it is possible, and that there is someone for me, who likes me the way I am or will like me the way I am, who will tolerate my faults as I tolerate theirs, and I think we're going to stay interested in each other and happy.
I guess it hit me because it wasn't something I was trying, or expecting, to realize on a trip to ER, and was the furthest thing from my mind, but it popped up anyway. Such strange timing, but because of it, made it stand out more and was more of a lesson to me; making me pay attention to what I was feeling and what was going on around me.
I know, whoever it is, he isn't from Wenatchee. Ha!

Blood Count: Very Low Hemocrit (2.2)
A pain pill is kicking in and I'm feeling very depleted still, but want to write a couple more things:
At discharge, my red blood cell count was 9. something, and I don't know what the hemoglobin was, and the hemocrit was at 2.something. Something like 2.29. I didn't think about the hemocrit being low until now.
http://www.answers.com/topic/hematocrit (discusses implications of low hemocrit. Also says usually hemocrit is low during pregnancy, but it was the reverse for me. I had HIGH hemocrit and low red blood cells during pregnancy, though I took an iron supplement and was well-hydrated. In pregnancy, this says it is lower, but mine was higher. Then, after blood loss, my hemocrit was fairly normal but keeps dropping. It's at 2.2.
But it was stable, basically,so they said, although now I'm researching about low hemocrit and it seems extremly low. It's supposed to be at a 10 and 7 is low. When my red blood cell count was at 7 I had blood transfusions. Right now it's my hemocrit, specifically, that's really low, and I'm reading this is typically indicative of the body's lack of iron, OR, of bone marrow suppression from radiation which affects the body's ability to form new healthy platelets. Knowing what happened to me and my son, I would suspect this is the cause of my inability to get the blood count to normal on hemocrit. Even after transfusion, it appears my body cannot produce what it needs. My iron levels are not low. I was prescribed iron, and I'll take it, but I was already taking, and have been taking, iron. So I don't see how taking more iron is going to help that much, if there is something wrong with my body's ability to produce healthy cells and regenerate. I mean, I was already taking iron, and eating hamburgers and red meat. There shouldn't be this low of a hemocrit problem.
I wish I'd had a computer/laptop when I was in the hospital because I could have figured this out and alerted them to this and asked for something besides an iron prescription. I'm going to take a look at what kind of prescription it is and then write it down here: Hmmm. No prescription. They just told me to take iron supplement.
I'm reading more about low hemocrit and found the following--that 11-12 is normal for most women and that a range of 10 is enough for blood transfusions and treatment for blood disorders. My range of TWO is probably grounds for some sort of immediate care and intervention but I don't know what.
I read this:
Re: Normal Iron but low hematocrit, hemoglobin and RBC....
Laura,
My mother's iron is normal, but hematcrit, hemoglobin and platelets are low. She's being treated for thrombocytopenia anemia, taking aranesp injections and getting blood transfusions.
She's in her 80's but never had a problem until 2 years ago. Age can be a factor because as we age our bone marrow may slow or even quit manufacturing more red cells and platelets, which is likely her case. However, age aside there are other things that can cause anemia, and that does sound like your potential diagnosis. Like you, her iron was okay, but they did start her on iron to see if there was any change in her labs before referring her to a hematologist/oncologyst. She does not have cancer, and the referral scared me, but at least locally, it seems that the hematologist are also oncologyist. I don't know if that just goes together or not.
You've probably seen ads on TV for procrit. Aranesp is the same type injection to help build the blood up, but for those like my mother who also have heart failure which is also causing less kidney function, then Aranesp is used. The injections help keep the hemocrit and other counts built up a little while or another way to look at it is that it helps slow the drop in the counts. She gets those just once a month and then when the hemocrit is in the 10.5 to 9.5 range AND she is feeling exhausted, then we get her transfused with 2 units of packed cells. The normal range for women is 12-14. That takes place ever 2-4 months, depending on how her body is holding up.
The good thing is that within a day or so after the transfusion, she feels much better. The doc has explained that there are a number of factors which can cause these changes and many can be treated with less extreme action of the transfusions. But, in her case her bone marrow just cannot function any more due to age and other conditions.
You may wish to speak with your doc about referring you to a hematologist if your insurance requires a referral and the iron doesn't help your situation. If a referral isn't required, you may wish to consider finding one on your own. Just be sure that your labs are watched and you drag yourself down to the point of being so exhausted before more is done.
Best wishes.
I'm sort of wondering about the urine...if they found a rare form of "bad bacteria" on the informal analysis, I wonder why they didn't find anything that looked like kidney infection. I'm wondering what kind of bacteria it was that they did find.
I had that song going through my head again, on the way to the hospital, and leaving:
"I'll See You Soon" by Coldplay.
I want to write about some people I noticed. It is the strangest thing, because I have so many enemies and I don't even know who all of them are, but I've lately, against logic and hard evidence, sensed, like I said, an unseen army of sorts, that really believes in me. Even believes in my account of what happened to me and my son. I wish I knew how to explain but I don't.

Results from ER & Reappearing Records
I'm really tired so not writing much until later.
I went to ER with very severe pain and bleeding and I don't know, when they discharged me, they said I was "stable" and a doctor was saying this was within realm of "normal", but several other docs disagreed and thought I should not be bleeding this far along, as much as I am, especially after taking Cytotec. I am still bleeding like a heavy period, with many clots. The pain is most worrisome, and the ultrasound done internally was excruciating when it touched the one ovary that has something inside of it.
Now, the doctor was saying it was probably not ectopic, but this seems strange, because the reasoning was that it was "inside" and not "outside" of the ovary. It can still be ectopic if it's inside, it's just more rare. It doesn't seem like a normal cyst because the pain is too great.
However, it had died or was not living at the time of exam, and my HCG levels were going down. I don't know if they'd go down if it died a long time ago, being small, and the HCG is mainly from the other fetus or what.
At any rate, I liked a few of the doctors and attendants and didn't care for others.
Something I thought was very odd, was that all of the radiology photos from the other day suddenly "reappeared". They were gone, and when the radiologists gave me a copy of the CD, there were only a few photos on it. As of yesterday, all the other photos were back in the computer. I asked a radiologist and she said all the information would be in one place and said anything taken would be in one place and easy to retrieve. So it's a little strange the photos were edited out, but at any rate, they are back, though I still wasn't allowed to see them.
They took more photos of the ovary yesterday and got better images, but I still wasn't allowed to see them. I don't know why not.
The disappearing sonagram photos was a little odd, and my record at the other hospital, of my initial visit, had also disappeared but I don't know if they've found it. They also "lost" some of my samples at the other hospital and were wanting me to give more samples because of it, and then after I refused to give anymore samples at the time (being tired and in pain) they "found" them.
I'll write more later but I'm tired right now. I wasn't comfortable until they gave me at least 2 mg. of Dialdid in an IV, but it made me naseaus too.
I think I'm beginning to become a good people "reader". There were some people there who I could tell were really good "people" and who, it seemed, also might know me though I didn't know them. I don't know how to explain it, but there were a couple, and I recognized one couple even from the waiting room. Then there were just a couple who seemed to know me as well, and I got a bad vibe. I'll write about it later.
I'm really tired.
A really nice guy is taking care of the baby and keeping it preserved. If he wants to do an independent autopsy, I may let him do it, but the baby is being transfered to safekeeping, at no cost to me, by a really nice guy who owns a big business.
My blood levels are okay, and bp is okay too. When I went in, I thought it would be fine but was mainly concerned about INCREASING pain when I'm this far along, and about the constant bleeding. I was more worried that any intervention might cause further bleeding. I wanted to have my blood tested for problems or abnormalities, but they wouldn't do it there. I had to fight to even get formally tested for a kidney infection, but that came clear too. I was really surprised by that because of the new back pain. I really, really, thought I probably had a kidney infection but they said there was some bacteria, but no infection.
I have to wait and see if the bleeding stops. Now I'm supposed to give it 10 days. So that's fine, but it does seem odd, and some doctors agreed, at this point, having been given Cytotec, I should not be bleeding so heavily and clotting still. They still confirmed there is nothing left inside the uterus that is causing the bleeding. If there was something leftover, I'm told this would be a cause for further bleeding, but there's not. It's just that the bleeding will not stop.

Going Back to ER Again
I am not okay.
I woke up out of short sleep, with severe pain and cramps and back pain and I took 2 of the Percocet and waited but it's only helping enough to get me out of bed at all.
Something is really wrong.
I know it sounds weird, but unless someone takes into account the fact that my body may have damages from overexposure to magnetic pulse for very long time, at super strengths, I believe my life is endangered and I may die.
These people have to know what they're working with before they can treat it properly. I am begging anyone with information to please tell someone now.
I am also begging someone to please give me the benefit of a doubt and believe me and assume this has happened, and treat my body accordingly. I don't know that Methergine is the best thing. If I'm now prone to hemmorhage, I don't know what should be done,
I am spending my energy, doubled over, to get this message out.
I am in severe pain and something is not right and this is not about normal miscarriage. I need some help, and it's not psychyological help--I need somenoe to have faith in me, who is a medical professional and can please believe me.

Still Cannot Sleep
I slept far too much during the day today. I really want to sleep and can't. I may have to break out a sleeping pill.
I am starting to think I don't have an ectopic pregnancy. I mean, maybe I do, but I'm thinking no, because wouldn't they find a heartbeat? They kept talking ectopic, but this is what I think, after all my research and questions, and then knowing how I feel.
First of all, I've lost all tenderness in my breasts. So I don't think I'm pregnant. I do have a very odd pang in my lower back but I'm wondering if it's kidney infection or something. I have cramping but I'm still passing some blood and clots.
I think that if my HCG levels were still high, from what I've read, this is normal. The placental lining is thick, which could be a problem, but I want to be doubly sure there's no ectopic before taking Methergine.
The enlarged ovary may just be a cyst. I think I had an enlarged ovary from my first pregnancy too.
My biggest tip-off is breasts. If I were pregnant, they would feel pregnant and hurt. And that's not there anymore, so I don't think so.
I'll go in, in a couple of days and have them check levels but it's supposed to be normal to have high levels even after miscarriage. And I really do think most of my pain was from prolapse, not an ectopic. The pain I felt was after walking or standing a while and that would be more prolapse pain than anything else.
So, I think I'm normal.
I tend to go around and around and go to the extremes in my questions, but I do this to examine every possibility and then just narrow things down to facts and what makes most sense, and this is what makes most sense to me now.
Also, I reread one of my posts about the ultrasound photos from George Washington and I don't think they were trying to "hide" anything from me--they just didn't want me to see the photos for some reason. I don't know why. As for cutting out all the photos that were taken, I would think they'd leave everything on the record, and why eliminate anything? especially since the photos were already taken? but, someone could have decided to just clean things up.
I think it would have been better to leave all the photos, to have a record of the state of my uterus after all of this. I wish they hadn't taken out any photos.
I am doing more research on Methergine too, and after I told these doctors how I had massive hemmorhage after taking Cytotec, why would they give me Methergine? Methergine is used for the exact same thing that Cytotec is used, and it increases contractions and things. If I almost bled to death after taking Cytotec, why would they send me home with Methergine? I might take it, but after reading what it's for, and knowing my reaction, I wouldn't take this outside of hospital supervision. There is no way I'd take this at home.
It's basically like a second round of Cytotec. They are used for the exact same thing.
It is a good thing I look out for MYSELF. because if I didn't, I'd be dead by now. Anyway, anyone can go online and see how Cytotec and Methergine are similar.
AND, these doctors sent me home with Methergine and no narcotics or painkillers to go along with it. From what I read, the top drug that is Co-used with Methergine and Cytotec, is FENTANYL, to control the severe pain.
And believe me, I had extremely severe pain and it wasn't treated very well at PGH until they started giving me at least 2 mg. diauldid
