Someone Went To AA

Someone I mentioned, who I took the beer away from the other day, went to AA the next day!

I didn't really believe it at first. But he told us how it went and he DID have some funny stories to tell. And, he was going back or trying out some other divisions of it and maybe other groups.

He said it was a lot of "God talk" which he didn't care for. Everyone was talking about God and they all made him pray with them at the end, and as he's telling us, his eyes were wide. But the funniest part, was hearing him say how, laughing, they were nuts, because they asked him how long he'd gone without alcohol and he said, "24 hours" and they all went crazy, cheering "WHOOOooooo!!!!!!!!", loudly yelling, and clapping fanatically. He didn't expect to be given that much applause for a 24 hour break. So he was laughing about that. They asked him what he was doing afterwards and he said he was going to get a beer (joking).

But I didn't see him drink last night, he just had coffee, which was unusual. I think he's trying total abstinence. Once he starts, he just keeps going is the problem. But to just quit like that has to be hard on the system too. He doesn't drink continously day and night, but he drinks so much at night, that it has to carry over through his body during the day, so I don't know if he might need medical help just to help the body with the shock.

At any rate, I also heard some other things from one of his best friends, and I might be able to change my opinion of him and suspicions about some of the things he does. Still not sure, because some things don't add up, and I have a lot of stuff going on and I can't sort through everything all at once.

Also, he thinks maybe he might be bipolar which might need meds, which would be cool, because other people notice, and maybe that would even everything out so he doesn't go so out of control. He has a lot going for him and is incredibly smart and has been strong enough to get through some very difficult, abusive, and hard situations, so in a way, I'm not suprised he has been able to summon the strength to do this, but I'm sure it will take a lot of time and effort.

Not only that, I don't know if he's prepared to lose friends.

Most people, when they quit drinking so heavily, or quit drugs (which he doesn't do), their friends sort of fall away. Even when you don't want it to happen, it often does, and I don't know if he's prepared for that. He needs people to support him, and, I think, be around him 24-7 during the hardest part, and then be able to adjust and find new friends if it comes down to that.

Oh, he also said there was a really hot chick at AA, so there must be something for everyone there.

Too bad it's a lot of God-talk though, because a lot of people don't want that. I guess different chapters are different though, and there are different kinds of groups and sponsors to choose from. He needs a sponsor too, by the way, so I hope he finds a good one. And then, there are other groups besides AA which don't have as much of a spiritual element.

You know what, I don't really know many people who are as strong as he is. He has even been opening up to tell a couple more people about abuse and exploitation of a sexual nature, from men, when he was a child and teen. Some of his friends don't want to hear about it, and he doesn't really open up so I hope there ends up being someone he can talk to, a new friend, if not a counselor. He doesn't cry very much, and feels numb a lot, he said to me once.
