Derrik: a poem

Tally the ho
so tallys the hoe
Ho, ho, ho, Santa says so
to tally the ho
Oh so tallied the woe
Woe in Toronto
tallied the sew
of the stuffed animal crow
one along the wall
one along the row
Tally the ho
So tallied the trolls
So tallied and stalked and troubled the doe
fawn not, do not fawn
weep not so my dear
men were shifty as satan's throw
one to the left, one to the right
feet on the shore and then on the soil
Toil and tarry and trouble me no more
get away to the safe
lock and stock and barrow
Drive it down the field
single straight row
tarry not and tally the ho
not so, this does not belong to
drivil and purple dinosaur
war if crowe
pull up the ladders
and batter the woman and child
rake in the daisy
set her to stand
one foot on shore and the other on sand
child to sail
no more
mother
no more
plant your palms at the rug by the painting
at the foot of the door
breaking apart a vial of
liquid
pulling one end and then the other
glitter onto the paper
letter
stuffing stuffing all the holes in the wall
in a knotty pine house
and garden full of owls, woodpeckers, and mockingbirds
who have built a small nest
put to rest any revolt
any discontent
put to rest the hope
roll up the rug, into a coil
put to rest the shame
of association with this name
claim not, do not claim
this one as yours
