I did a little hustling today. Just walked around and asked people, in Spanish, if they had papers and needed work or knew someone who needed work and had papers. A ton of people took my name and number for friends they had.
And I met 4 people, personally, who gave me their names and numbers and a description of what kind of work they're looking for.
So I have to find out how to get a non-profit license.
I actually started having back and stomach pain after walking several blocks so then I just came home. But this is sort of why I need a flexible job where I can quit when my body quits, which is at any given time and I can't predict when it is.
Basically, I cut to the chase and make it easy for people to try to get work. I'm not an employment agency, I'm more of an employment coyote. Or agent, and I'm not getting rich, because I charge only $200 one time from their first check if they get hired. Which, they all agree, is a very good deal. I know it is, but I'm into helping people and not scamming them (which is probably why I'm not richer than I am). Anyway, if I get 4 people a job, that's $800. And these people all have papers.
I do several things: 1. search online for whatever they want, in or out of state, 2. I do the telephone work, and 3. I will go with them to the company (if it's local) for an introduction, if they want me to.
I'm meeting a lot of people. The thing about hispanic people, is that a lot of Americans or caucasians don't know what an asset they are. In their culture, loyalty says a lot, and they won't forget you. They have the best verbal grapevine I've ever come across--news travels FAST. Their women are some of the toughest in childbirth, and their men, you can see an example of what they're capable of by looking at their service records in the military. I read it once, that Mexican or hispanic military received more awards, like Purple Hearts and things, in greater numbers, than people of any other race or culture--they're fighters and they will lay down their lives for what they believe in.
That's my opinion. You have good and bad in every culture, but I still think, as long as I'm here, I would like to build up my own mafia, Mi Mafia, by supporting them to get ahead and use our brains to do it. And I want this for people of every race and culture--more private non-profit law firms are needed to take on cases and reverse the tide. The ACLU can't, and doesn't, do everything. There needs to be more, and more lawyers with a fighting spirit.
I think people, once they see what you're doing and they trust you, they'll make even small contributions to help. There are a lot of people who don't know what the system is like, because they're always on the outside--but there are other people who have had family through it, and they know. And there are a lot of them, but they're pushed down and told to shut up and their families get punished if they don't. I want these people to have their day.
And I still think it's a good idea to have an underground railroad for informants, with support of other countries, because sometimes, U.S. witness protection isn't offered, and other times, it may not be the safest thing either.
