Tutorial On RICO: Part 1

I'm walking you through this a little bit, just to start. This is the first page, from the Cornell site. It is the outline of chapters. A "title", as in "Title 18", is a law. There are different laws, or statutes--federal, state, and county (and others as well). This is a federal statute (law). It is regarding "Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations." The little symbols that look like "S" stand for "Section". So, the first "chapter" would be referred (verbally), "Title 18, section 1962." The first section will describe and define prohibited activities, and the next will describe the kind of criminal sanctions or penalties that can be used against those prosecuted, section 1964 will examine civil remedies, which would include damages and reparations of a civil nature. Then, venue and process will show where the jurisdiction is, and how to serve the people and what the process is (legal procedure). Expedition of actions I don't know about yet! I'll have to read it over and then explain. I think it's referring to getting the process started, with motions and timelines. Then there is evidence, which will probably refer to what sort of evidence is admissible, and then finally, there is the civil investigative demand and I don't know what that's about yet.
