I was really lost today, driving. I kept going around and around and couldn't get my bearings. I thought I was going away from the White House when I was going torwards it, and vice versa. I am very directionally challenged and sometimes just luck out.
Like tonight, for example, I was trying to take the freeway back to Maryland and I ended up in Virginia, so I just drove along looking for an exit. Then I saw the Navy Annex sign, and I suddenly knew where I was.
It's so much different when you're driving. I never knew how close I was to D.C. from Arlington. Driving, it's just across the bridge. The Metro takes a lot longer, but the Metro here isn't bad either.
I actually like D.C. If I have to be in the U.S., I'd be here or maybe NYC, but NYC seems too big right now. I think I'd like the art people I'd meet in NYC though, and it would fun to visit some of the bouroughs. I used to think this wasn't a very kid-friendly town, but then I realized, this is exactly the type of town my son would love.
He likes playing at the park and on play structures, and loves, loves, all machinery and mechanical things. But he also would stare, sometimes, for a half hour, looking at a painting from a book or on the wall. There are so many free museums here, I think he'd like going to see stuff with me.
I think maybe the Mines Bureau is on 14th because I saw familiar federal buildings. I was trying to make note of stuff. I also saw the Holocaust museum and it's huge! It was really small when I visited, over 10 years ago.
